How long have you been using HDRI-Studio files to light your work?

I have been using the HDRI method for the past year now along with Mental Ray and Maya software.

What are the advantages of going down the image based lighting route and specifically, what is good about using HDRI-Studio lighting?

We switched to imaged based lighting as it has definite advantages when recreating photorealistic imagery. Advantages range from price considerations (which 3D is highly favourable for us) to artistic license and what it enable us to change easily. HDRI methods are also relatively simple to use, create the IBL, assign the image, adjust the colour and intensity, position the HDR and you're set.

How do you find the workflow in Maya?

I have been using the Final Gather method since Maya 5.0.1 for all work, but with HDRI-Studio lighting along with the HDR method itself, we can achieve a greater level of realism than previously thought, allowing us to effectively light a shot the way we want it without having to spend many more thousands of dollars on photographers.

Which HDRI-Studio file, and which version of Maya are you using?

I have been using the N20_3000 pixel HDR map for all renders in Maya 8; this was due particularly to the amount of light in the map which I felt simulated a brightly lit photographic studio very well.

Any other feedback you would like to add about your experience with
HDRI-Studio's products and services?

Selection of the image was made easy on the website with previews and interactive lighting demonstrations which saves time and hassle choosing your map. The support that comes with using HDRI-Studio images is also a major benefit. Upon initial implementations I had questions about the process and they are always more than happy to assist, a rare thing in this industry.

Thank you for your time in preparing this and giving some insight into your work at Bose.
